Description

Discover the UNESCO-listed city of Berat on a full-day guided tour from Tirana. Explore the city's ancient history and breathtaking landscapes, and enjoy a traditional lunch in the Gorica neighborhood. Start your day with an early morning pickup from your hotel in Tirana. Travel to Berat, stopping for breakfast or a short coffee along the way. When you arrive in the city, be greeted by the Gorica Bridge and the famous traditional buildings of the city. Known as the town of 1001 windows, Berat is part of the UNESCO World Heritage list. Walk through the narrow stone streets to see the medieval old houses, with windows that seem to stand on top of each other. Learn about the city's history, which began in the 6th-5th century B.C. as an Illyrian settlement. In the 3rd century B.C., it was turned into a castle-city known as Antipatrea. Uniquely today, residents still live inside the castle walls. Berat has it all: a beautiful medieval castle, ancient churches and mosques, a lively lower town consisting of grand old houses draped on steep hillsides, an old stone bridge, great museums, and remains from the communist era in Albania. Berat is also known as the birthplace of Onufri, the famous painter of churches all over the Balkans, distinguished for creating a specific reddish color still difficult to imitate. Continue your tour and visit the Gorica neighborhood, crossing the famous bridge that holds the same name. Enjoy a traditional lunch in the Gorica neighborhood, with beautiful views of the city, the castle, and time to taste some traditional food. On your way back to Tirana, drive past Belsh Lake, offering a picturesque view. Have some free time to walk by the promenade surrounded by the emerald waters or stop at one of the coffee shops near the lake.
