Description
Gjirokastra and Blue Eyes Starting Time 07:15 am Gjirokaster, located in Albania’s southern Drino Valley, is a treasure trove of heritage and striking architecture. This UNESCO-listed city resembles a storybook with its old stone houses and breathtaking scenery. Known as the “City of Stone” and the birthplace of the international well known writer Ismail Kadare, Gjirokaster holds onto its historic Ottoman-era buildings. The windy streets reveal tales of the past and the rich history of this wonderful city. This city is also the birthplace of Enver Hoxha, former Albania’s controversial historical communist leader from 1944 to 1985. Gjirokaster Castle, standing tall since the 4th century, offers panoramic views and a very interesting Ethnographic Museum. Inside you can discover myths and fairytales, including the legend of Argjiro. She was a brave princess that according to the albanian folklore she jumped from the castle with her baby to avoid getting caught from the ottomans…. Gjirokaster has some very distinctive dishes that you can taste with some amazing views. Taste local dishes blending turkish, greek, and mediterranean flavors like pite and qifqi. Also you can explore beyond the city to find scenic landscapes and the majestic Gjerë Mountains. At day’s end, Gjirokaster glows with lively music in cafes and taverns, welcoming everyone with the Albanian hospitality. Visiting Gjirokaster is like a journey through Albania’s history, culture, and nature. But also we have another location to explore. The Blue Eye is a special place near Saranda that people love to visit. It’s a natural spring where the water is incredibly clear and, you guessed it, a stunning shade of blue. The water is so clear that you can see deep down! The locals say that its more than 50 meters deep! The Blue Eye is like a magical gem in nature, with its crystal-clear waters and mysterious depths, captivating anyone who sees it.Includes
