Description

Begin your day with a leisurely Albanian breakfast and coffee around Bulevardi Republika. Then, visit the historic school building where the first Albanian-language classroom opened in 1887. Walk to the Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ, then continue through Korçë's central pedestrian area. Next, visit the National Museum of Medieval Art, the city's major museum highlight. Its collection contains more than 7,000 objects, including important Byzantine and post-Byzantine icons. Have a traditional Korçë lunch. Look for lakror (a local savory pie), qofte, seasonal vegetables, and local cheeses. After lunch, head west into the mountains. Voskopojë is roughly 20 km from Korçë, at about 1,200 m elevation. Walk through the stone-built village and visit some of its historic churches. The village is particularly famous for its Byzantine/post-Byzantine churches, frescoes, and icons. Allow some time for a short walk through the pine forest and mountain scenery as well. Spend the late afternoon in Korçë's Old Bazaar. Wander the cobbled lanes, browse artisan shops, and stop for coffee or a drink. The restored historic quarter is now filled with cafés, restaurants, and traditional shops. Walk along the central pedestrian streets and Fan Noli/Republika Boulevard, taking in Korçë's distinctive architecture. Finish with a traditional dinner in or around the Old Bazaar. Korçë is known as the “city of serenades,” and an evening with live traditional music is the perfect ending to the day.
