Description

Day 1: Dukat - Terbac Transfer by car from Vlora to Dukat, nestled in a small side valley, the village of Dukat is the starting point for the first day. On the path of the shepherds and an ancient trade route that connected the Bay of Vlora with the inland villages, we ascend to the forest of Bredhi with a view of the Adriatic Sea, Qafa e Shen Gjergj (1145 m) for a panoramic view of the Shushica Valley. The highest peaks such as Cika (2044m) and Qorre (2018m) impress with their ruggedness. Descending into the ancient oak forest on the old caravan road through the deserted village of Pirgu to Terbac. Free afternoon to explore the remnants of communist buildings. Accommodation in a guesthouse run by a shepherd family who relocated here from Pirgu. All meals included. Day 2: Terbac - Kallarat A more relaxed day in terms of physical activity, we will start from the village of Terbac to reach the village of Kallarat. Through pine forests and light woods, we approach the village of Vranisht at the foot of Mount Cika. Before continuing the hike, we can enjoy drinks at the village café. A small trail leads through hills to Kallarat, from the last pass, the view of Qafa e Shen Gjergjit and the slopes of Bogonica, which will be climbed on the third day, is still visible. Just like in all the villages of Albania, there are many communist monuments here, and the villagers still keep books and photographs of Enver Hoxha. Day 3: Kallarat - Mount Bogonica - Pilur The longest and most challenging hike of the journey starts at the partisan monument, leading first to the ruined village destroyed by the Greeks in World War I, and after a further long ascent, to a series of hidden green meadows on the side of the mountain. Two groups of shepherds live here for half the year, taking turns to tend to the flock, especially the wolves are a constant threat. From the highest point at 1400 m, the panorama stretches from Corfu and the Butrint Lagoon along the Albanian Riviera to the coastal city of Himara, overlooking many villages. Also, Nemercka (2482m) covered in snow from November to May is visible, and the details of the upper villages of Kurvelesh can be distinguished. The hike continues through magnificent valleys with breathtaking views of the village of Pilur. Accommodation in a guesthouse. Dinner and Breakfast included. Day 4: Transfer from Pilur to the sea.
