Description

If we were to describe a mountain as right at home, in our backyard, it would undoubtedly be Golem Korab Peak. For our company, it's more than just a destination—it's a second home, deeply ingrained in our identity for numerous reasons. Our summer base in Mavrovo National Park sees us spending a significant portion of the year amidst its breathtaking landscapes. Additionally, our team has played a pivotal role in installing winter markings to Golem Korab peak from the Macedonian side—a testament to our passion for mountaineering and dedication to ensuring safe exploration. Yet, beyond its natural wonders, Golem Korab Peak holds a treasure trove of stories and legends from the Balkan peoples and the region's turbulent past. Our tours often include a visit to a local sheep farm, offering our customers the chance to sample the renowned sheep cheese crafted in time-honored tradition—an experience steeped in history and culture. Ascending Golem Korab peak isn't just a hiking tour—it's a photographic safari showcasing the most spectacular vistas in the Balkans. It's also an educational journey, shedding light on the region's rare and precious biodiversity, which Mavrovo National Park diligently protects. When you listen to the tales of history and tradition narrated by our guides, you'll come to understand why Golem Korab Peak truly lives up to its name. If you're seeking a transformative experience, look no further—your next destination awaits atop Golem Korab peak. Itinerary The day begins with morning transportation from Mavrovi Anovi to the hike's starting point - the Srezimir checkpoint, reached by a wide dirt road using a 4x4 vehicle. The first part of the hike goes through an old and dense beech forest up to an altitude of 1700 meters, where you enter the pasture zone. These pastures are some of the finest in this part of Europe, offering spectacular landscapes, scenery, and panoramas of the neighboring peaks and mountain ranges. The ascent to the peak usually takes around three hours, depending primarily on the physical fitness of the clients and the weather conditions. The descent is about 40 minutes shorter. The peak Golem Korab is located on the border between Macedonia and Albania, so with one climb, you reach the highest point in two neighboring countries. After completing the hike, depending on the client's wishes, additional activities can be added, such as visits to local sites with endemic biodiversity, and cultural places, or organizing traditional food tastings. These additional services are not included in the basic package price offered.
