Explore Berat so called 'City of a Thousand Windows' on a day trip from Durrës. Visit the Berat Castle, stroll through cobblestone streets, and see traditional houses. The Castle of Berat is often described as one of the oldest continuously inhabited castles in Europe, and this is one of the features that makes it so attractive to visitors. The castle has been inhabited since antiquity, and even today, families still live within its historic wall. Inside the castle, in addition to the residences, you’ll find ancient churches, a mosque, and the Onufri Museum. It houses a remarkable collection of Byzantine and post-Byzantine icons, with masterpieces attributed to the renowned 16th-century Albanian painter, Onufri. In your free time to the castle you can explore by yourself. Depart from Durrës and enjoy a scenic 1.5-hour drive to Berat. Upon arrival, start your exploration in the historic castle or 'Kala neighborhood' The visit continues below the castle in the medieval town, where both the Mangalem and Gorica neighborhoods, are part of the UNESCO site, can be admired. In the lower part of the town, visitors will find historic mosques, such as the King Mosque, the Bachelor’s Mosque, and the Haveti Tekke.
