The town with the mosaic of “The Beauty of Durrës”

Visiting  Albania is meaningless, if you don't stop in Durrës to enjoy the town with its amphitheater, where the famous mosaic "The Beauty of Durrës" was discovered, a multicoloured mosaic of the 4th century (since 1982 it has been on display at the National Historical Museum of Albania in Tirana). It is said that the most beautiful girls of the town posed for this mosaic.
The Durrës Amphitheater built at the beginning of the 2nd century AD is the largest and most important, not only in Albania, but also in the Balkans. At the stairs of this amphitheater 16-20,000 people could sit, while gladiatorial fights took place in the arena. It is located in the city center, so you can easily visit it, without forgetting to take pictures, which will be unique memories for you.
From the Amphitheater you can visit the castle located very close to it. Durrës Castle is a 5th century castle. At the top, there is a nice bar, where you can drink a coffee and enjoy the fantastic view of the sea in front, as well as the largest promenade of the city where hundreds of people walk.
An important part of the city is the seaport, which is the largest in Albania and one of the largest in the Adriatic and Ionian Seas.
Numerous ships, of different sizes and colors, anchored there, masts and cranes resembling stork necks, make the visit to this port very attractive.
Rodon Cape is a very special attraction located somewhere between Tirana and Durrës. In addition to the fantastic coast and pine forest, you can also visit the castle of Rodon, which was built by Skanderbeg around 1451-1452. The castle walls are bathed by the sea and this makes your visit to this place unforgettable. In addition to the castle, there is also the church of St. Ndou, where according to history, Skanderbeg's sister, Mamica, spent part of her life.
