Stone City Hostel

This was one of the best hostels I've ever stayed in! We received a very warm welcome from the owner, who even offers free city tours a few times a week. The atmosphere is friendly and welcoming, especially at breakfast with the other travelers; it feels almost like being in a small home with our family. Furthermore, the hostel is very well located in the historic district of Gjirokastër, just steps from restaurants, viewpoints, and other historical sites.
Wonderful hostel. The owners and staff go out of their way to make you feel welcome and comfortable. The space is clean and has a cozy chill vibe. Minutes from the bazaar and castle. Highly recommend!
My favourite place in all of Albania – I keep returning here. The house is charming and beautiful, impeccably clean and wonderfully hospitable. There is a lovely terrace where you can spend hours reading books, the beds are very comfortable, and the breakfast (with homemade cake) is served in a cosy shared living room/kitchen filled with books and board games. The hosts are always ready to give great advice on what to do and what to see, and they are very knowledgeable about Albania and Gjirokastra.
We stayed here 2 nights and I wish we could have stayed longer. The hostel was most beautifully decorated and we were welcomed by the volunteers that were incredibly friendly and helpful throughout our stay. We were given local hike recommendations on a pamphlet curated by the hostel owner Walter. It was a social hostel with a different activity each night, on our first night it was a homemade cocktail evening which I believe even used mint from their garden. The following evening Walter gave a very informative city tour which covered some sights we hadn't seen as well as new facts about Gjirokaster and Albania. We had a mixer dorm room which had a lovely view of the castle and was very clean, the only thing I would change would be the addition of curtains on the beds but being on the top bunk means this didn't phase me too much. The toilets and showers were very clean as well as the common areas. the breakfast was very generous with the option of fruit, banana cake (homemade), tea and coffee, bread and spread, and a fried egg. Overall our highlight of Gjirokaster and wished we could stay longer
